The idea for Alefba Academy took shape far beyond the borders of the homeland — in a place where the importance of roots and mother tongue became more vivid than ever. Why Was Alefba
Academy Created?
One of the biggest concerns for immigrant families is learning the language of their new country. Yet children settle in far faster than adults — they start chatting, joking, and dreaming in the new language almost overnight.
This concern is so widely recognised that many developed countries allocate dedicated funding to preserving and teaching immigrants' mother tongues.
According to child psychology, when children learn their mother tongue and culture with love and depth, their self-confidence blossoms, their imagination soars, and they grow stronger emotionally and cognitively.
We set out to connect children to their mother tongue through the tools of storytelling, theatre, and painting — and to help them discover their own creativity in a calm, joyful space.

Alefba Academy —
born from a mother and teacher's heart
Alefba Academy was founded by Hiwa (Fatemeh) Shahbazi in 2023 in Canada. Hiwa holds a PhD in Persian Language and Literature and brings more than 16 years of university teaching experience to every class.
From her teenage years she has been passionate about painting and ceramics, and she has always believed that Iranian language and culture can reach children's hearts through colour, storytelling, and play — never through force.
Today, Hiwa — Folklore researcher, educator, and artist — pours all her knowledge, experience, and love into building a place where immigrant Iranian children can find their roots and grow their wings at the same time.
